…the truth is that everyone is bored, and devotes himself to cultivating habits…

with all the painting and hockey tournamenting and mess-making being done in my house today, i completely forgot that it was saturday and my weekly post was due. well, i suppose it is a self-imposed deadline, but nonetheless, it is one i would like to try to keep.  i had a list of five songs by different artists half-written, but i was listening to brandi carlile in the background as i was writing it, and i changed my mind. this week you get five brandi songs. ’cause the are all amazing and beautiful and fitting and perfect. i’ll post the other four i had in mind next week maybe.

also, as i was thinking about what to write for each song, it occurred to me that i should just post the lyrics for each one and let you really enjoy their perfection.  but then the post would be too long. so when you are listening to the songs, make sure you listen to the words, cause that is my favorite part.

also, it was very hard to pick just five. very, very hard. i thought about including a sixth, but won’t. i’ll save it for another day.

anyways, here we go: week of february 21-27, 2010

brandi carlile – burn
live track, can’t figure out what album it was released on.

i think it might be impossible for me to get across how freaking much i love this song right now.  this song caught my ear on the first playthrough and found itself on endless repeat this week. she sings with so much emotion, and the lyrics are perfect. it is actually a cover of a ray lamontagne song, but i like brandi’s version better. honestly, i could listen to this song all day long.

Yes’n I try to ignore
All this blood on the floor
It’s just this heart on my sleeve that’s a bleeding

and the last line in the song … and i will stand here and burn in my skin … is the perfect description for how i feel living my life right now.

brandi carlile – i will
give up the ghost (2009)

*sob*

Its about time to let you go and i thought its time to let you know
And it has to be the one that you’d regret
I have to say that im proud to know you
And ill never be the same because we met
You might not miss this i will

brandi carlile – cannonball
the story (2007)

i need to learn how to play guitar so i can play these songs. they just kind of slice through me.

Someone told me a lie
Someone looked me in the eye
And said time will ease your pain

brandi carlile – before it breaks
give up the ghost (2009)

i don’t like this album as much as the story, the music is more complex or produced or plugged or something.  i like her better when it is just her voice and the guitar.  nonetheless, this is a great song.

say it ain’t so, say i’m happy again
say it’s over, say i’m dreaming
say i’m better than you left me
say you’re sorry i can take it

brandi carlile – hiding my heart
live track again… sorry… some sites say it is a hidden track on the story, but im not sure.

i totally believe every word she says. don’t you?

enjoy. comment. have a great week!
