to be totally honest, many of the songs included in last weeks top 5, would be the same if i did a top five again this week. so instead, this is a listing of 5 great tracks i’ve come across this week (or before, but seem to have resurfaced this week). also, i have written this week’s post in advance of saturday as i am going out of town for the weekend and am not sure what kind of internet access i’ll have on saturday. (i am actually sitting in the airport right now, taking advantage of their free wifi to finish this post)
so here we go: week of february 14 – 20, 2010
lucero – nights like these
tennessee (2002)
found this band through blip.fm and they are great. i suck at categorizing or labelling the music i listen to, but last.fm calls them alt country, whatever that means. i downloaded a few of their albums and the album this song is on, tennessee, is by far my favorite.
tv on the radio – wolf like me
return to cookie mountain (2006)
again, i have no idea what to call this band. last.fm calls them art rock or post-punk. frickin’ labels. it’s catchy shit… you’ll like it. just trust me.
really though, how could you not like a song about werewolf sex….?
laura veirs – july flame
july flame (2010)
just a pretty little ditty i thought you might like, warning in advance, it get’s lodged in your brain right next to that stupid miley cyrus song though. not that i am comparing laura veirs to miley, not at all. but just saying that the tune sits in your brain in the same location. in this case, a good thing. in miley’s case, not so much. you know, trying to include a little something for everyone. the video for this song is really cool, if you like it, go hit up you tube and have a look.
barenaked ladies – brian wilson
gordon (1992)
how could you not love this song, or any of the songs on this album for that matter. enid, grade 9, the flag, what a good boy, hello city, be my yoko ono, the album is filled with fantastic music. i think this album is probably on my list of at least top 20 favourites. i went through a bit of a thing this week, listening to the album on endless repeat; in the car, at work, in bed. you get the picture. i really love it.
the concretes – miss you
layourbattleaxedown (2005)
just a great cover of a rolling stones song. i haven’t found anything else by this band that i like quite as much as this song, but in all honesty i have not spent that much time looking/listening at/to their other stuff. i think this is another one i came across on blip.fm. mellow and nice.
that’s it. enjoy. maybe i’ll get two comments this week. fingers crossed!

The Concretes – You can’t hurry love
Definitely save it for the summer time.
